Backyard Wedding | Alison and Ryan
Ryan and Alison had planned on having a wedding at The Eastern Market in Detroit with all of their friends and family. 2020 changed their plans and lead them to completely downsizing, relocating, and redoing all of their wedding plans. They went from a large party, to an intimate elopement with a reception to follow later when it would be safe to properly gather. This intimate wedding took place in their parents yard. It was complete with an arch made by Alison’s dad, macrame made by a sister, dried florals foraged from their property and from friends, a tent, and pizza and sister pie. Their intimate celebration was so special with so many personal details. They truly made the best of a wild year and still got married.
Walking down the aisle, Alison and Ryan kept walking to have a moment alone. They went into the wooded area right next to the house and hugged and took some breaths before I came up to them to grab a few portraits of them in those “just married” feels moments.
After Alison and Ryan had some alone time after the wedding ceremony, their friends and family came back over to the arch for some group pictures.
They set up a bar in the garage to have a place to hangout and warm up between pictures and dinner. Alison and Ryan were able to chat with their friends and family, hug their people, and embrace the full day. They stepped over to the tent to sign their marriage license and take in the reception space they planned out before everyone joined them in that space for dinner later.
Alison and Ryan had their first dance while their friends and family stood by watching and supporting them. After their first dance they took turns with their parents for first dances with them too.
Alison and Ryan had a champagne glass for everyone to use and it was also a gift to take home! In individual boxes were cookies from sister pie, and an actual pie for Alison and Ryan to eat. Family members also made Italian cookies for everyone to eat.
Everyone gathered in the tent for dinner. They were welcomed by a toast by the father of the bride. Soon after the thoughtful words, everyone took their turns to order their individual pizza from Pizza Plex. They had their mobile firebrick oven there to make individual pizzas for everyone (it was amazing)
Ending the formalities of the night, Ryan and Alison said thank you to their friends and family for being there and supporting them. It’s evident how loved these two are and that their community of people truly have their back.
